Set in a picturesque rural location, the kiosk is a familiar and much-loved feature of the local landscape. Designed in 1935 by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the K6 telephone box is recognised as a classic symbol of British heritage. While many of these kiosks have disappeared in recent years, their historic and cultural value remains significant.
By adopting the Roby Mill kiosk, the Parish Council is helping to safeguard an important piece of local character. Retaining such features contributes to the distinct identity of the area, offering a visible link to the past and enhancing the charm of the rural setting.
The Council intends to give the kiosk a new lease of life by transforming it into a community book exchange. This will provide residents and visitors with an opportunity to share and enjoy books in a unique and accessible way, while preserving the structure itself.
Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to make use of the book exchange and help care for this small but meaningful part of Roby Mill’s heritage. Anyone interested in volunteering to support the refurbishment or help manage the book exchange once it is up and running is warmly invited to get in touch with the Parish Council.
