A New Hedgerow for Mill Lane – A Wonderful Community Effort

On a bright and sunny winter’s day, 6 November 2025, pupils, residents, and volunteers worked side by side to plant a hedgerow along the inside of the broken wooden fence bordering the Mill Lane play area. This project was a fantastic example of what can be achieved when the community works together.
We are especially grateful for the support and collaboration of Lancashire County Council, whose involvement helped make the day such a success. The enthusiasm shown by the children—particularly members of the school’s Eco Council—was a real highlight, reflecting their commitment to caring for the environment and improving local green spaces.
Following the event, the Chairman of Up Holland Parish Council, Cllr Neil Smith was delighted to attend a school assembly at St Thomas the Martyr Primary School, where certificates of participation were presented to the children in recognition of their hard work and contribution to the project.
The new hedgerow will enhance the appearance of the play area, provide valuable habitat for wildlife, and help create a safer, greener environment for the whole community to enjoy for years to come.
Thank you once again to everyone involved in making this such an enjoyable and rewarding community occasion.
